GOLF HISTORY
Introduction:
Although golf is a very ancient game, the origin of the game is still not clear. Debates proliferate as to the origin of the game of golf. While some consider the Chinese to have invented the game of golf, some consider that it is the Scottish and the Dutch people who came up with the idea of golf. Scotland is credited for the invention of the game of golf. It is considered that a game very similar to the present golf evolved in the 1100’s. The game of golf also has its mention in the Chinese records. Apart from that, golf was also mentioned on 26th February, 1297 in the city of Loenen aan de Vecht, in the Netherlands. The Dutch used to play the game of golf using a leather ball and the stick.
Miscellaneous:
The winner of the game was the person who used to hit the ball at the farthest target, the maximum number of times. The most ancient golf course to be played was the Mussel burgh Racecourse. It is believed that the game of golf was played on the racecourse as far back as 1672, despite the fact that Queen Mary of the Scots used to regularly play golf matches in the year 1567. Not all the golf courses have eighteen holes. Mowers are one amongst the major changes that are experienced by the present golf tournament. In addition, the 20th century also witnessed an evolution in the manufacture of golf clubs from woods to the metals. |
